About Us

Spectrum Petrographics, Inc. was established in early 1992 by owners Robert Vawdrey and Dr. Michael DePangher. Since that time, Spectrum has produced an average of approximately 25,000 thin sections per year, and has prepared thin sections for over 3,600 individuals from over 1,900 companies worldwide. Before his retirement in 2006, Mr. Vawdrey final lapped over 700,000 thin sections. Today, our highly skilled technicians continue with his methods, while Dr. DePangher oversees Spectrum's highly refined polishing and finishing processes. Our entire staff is involved in the research and development of sectioning methods appropriate for ever-evolving earth science analyses.

Our customers include students, professors and researchers affiliated with academic institutions; government agencies, including the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Department of Agriculture; professional mining and exploration operations; museums and archives; as well as private collectors and enthusiasts.
